Up Your Alley Street Fair Singletail Demo

I video-captured this at the Up Your Alley Street Fair on July 26. 2013. I will be attending this same street festival in July of 2019. It's basically Folsom Street Fair, by the same folks, but smaller, and for gay leathermen.

I am not personally acquainted with the Whipping Top in the video, but his vest indicates that he is a member in excellent standing with the Fifteen Association in San Francisco. I also judge him as being in the top rank of accomplished kinky singletail artists.

I am posting this video in the hopes of helping to educate more people on what is POSSIBLE if you apply yourself, and dedicate yourself to excellence. Start small, practice and keep learning, and eventually, you can be just as adept and respected.

Video Commentary

When watching the Top, notice the light flicks that he uses to get his proper range, before he cuts loose with a HARD crack that causes a strong reaction in the bottom. This is good technique. Random hits are bad hits. Always.

He jiggles the whip to make sure that it is untangled and free for unimpeded action before the next strike.

The Top is a lot shorter than I am, so I am guessing that is why he uses the over-the-head "Towel Snap" style of throw periodically. If I did that, the ceiling would get in my way.

Watch where the whip goes, AFTER a strike. It does not strike the Top, or anyone else. This is just as crucial of a lesson to learn as how to hit something. Beginner Whip Tops don't look confident if they are flinching, every time they throw a whip.

The more momentum a whip has, the faster and harder it can go when it finally makes contact. Hence, the "behind the back" move before a heavy strike, which I've never seen anyone else do. It's quite a beautiful move.

Notice that he moves his BODY to change position, not his arm action. His arm never changes its angle or extension.

About Whips

Here is a nice article for beginners.

The finest, thinnest three-foot Signal Whips (also known as "Pocket Snake Whips") like the one in the video (without any form of handle) are expensive when made out of leather. They are found at places like Happy Tails and Axel, and they are awesome to own.

I personally prefer three-footer Signal Whips and Blacksnakes because I am tall, and I don't like to hit the ceiling during a strike. I consider it the perfect length for all-around use. The phrase "Three Feet Long" only refers to the main part of the whip. That is why they are a bit longer when they arrive.

Alternatively…

Signal Whips made out of Paracord are EVERYWHERE on the Internet in places such as Etsy. This nylon material needs little breaking-in before becoming perfectly flexible, and can cost a lot less than leather whips. Replacement crackers (the part that strikes) are also found on Etsy. For the sake of hygiene, never share whip crackers between people. A whip can cause bleeding, and you don't want to spread disease from one person to another.

Practice Practice PRACTICE!

All whips need to be broken-in through practice on inanimate objects (such as pillows), before you can achieve the accuracy and perfection of results seen here. The floppier such a whip is, the more accurate the aim. It's also a VERY good idea to set a personal goal of achieving PERFECT AIM before using such a potentially-dangerous toy on a human being. Singletail is my favorite impact activity. Flogging comes in a close second. I’ve watched this fellow give other whippings on Youtube and saw him give a good one “live” at Dore Alley last year, getting to talk shop with him briefly. Nice guy! …which probably sounds wierd to say about a guy whipping another man :-). Nevertheless, he’s a nice guy.

Digital LED and Fiber-Optic Kinky Play, With Poi

Demonstrated at the 2014 Leather Fetish Ball in San Diego. The goal was to put on a show that nobody had ever seen before. Based on the screaming and commentary in the video, our mission was accomplished. Before starting, I asked the lighting-guy to turn off ALL lights in the auditorium. It took some convincing, but we got our wish.

We were wearing cheap light-up crap from the Dollar Store (all of it made in China). We attached it with clear packing-tape. Halloween season is a good time to hit the Dollar Stores in your area, for the battery-powered, light-up-in-the-dark stuff.

We started with regular, leather floggers with inexpensive fiber-optic toys attached. Then, we went HARDCORE about halfway through:

David and I are demonstrating Three-Beat Weaves at the big event, in front of 300 astonished people.

We didn't practice onstage beforehand, which is why I was losing the war with the curtain, in my PINK harness!

Hardware, Explained

No, there are no actual "flames" involved. Each flogger is a bundle of fiber-optics, attached to a flashlight handle that has at least two dozen programmable modes.

Do NOT do this to somebody's bare skin, unless they are a serious Pain Pig. If I am demoing on an average person, I make them wear a vest! The fibers are sharp and painful, like many single-tail whips at once!

This is BETTER (and less expensive) than what we used onstage at the Leather Fetish Ball:

This is what I recommend getting, because the default fibers are too stiff by far, and too long, usually. the 6-footers are unbelievably unusable.

Florentine-style moves have a long, LONG history OUTSIDE of the kinky scene. There are many HUNDREDS of techniques that are part of the ancient art of "Technical Poi". Here is a wonderful video that shows the potential for wowing the hell out of folks when performing in public.

Note from Papa Tony: I like to post these Demo Videos because I am a visual learner. I could try to learn something physical (swimming, rollerblading, kinky techniques) by reading a technical manual, but that is not how my brain works. I learn best by watching somebody who knows what they are doing. As time goes by, I will be posting nearly a hundred videos like this one, for the benefit of folks all over the world.

The San Diego Leather Fetish Ball is an annual social gathering that always sells out the venue. During the course of the evening, talented folks who like to show off their kinky abilities are invited to give short demos for the entertainment of others.

In this particular video, the very talented Sebastian demonstrates his unique flogging style on Slave Bob. I taught Sebastian flogging a long time ago, and I make no claim to his talents - That's all HIM. I have taught literally thousands of people over the decades, and nobody does it like our Sebastian!

Sebastian switches hands fluidly in a very ambidextrous way, and switches toys. He chose Bob as his Demo Bottom because Bob is a superb submissive who has authentic and erotic reactions that make ANY Flogging Top go wild!

The toy that makes the loud "THWOP!" sound is a custom-made beaver pelt flogger with a handle. I have no idea where to get one, but any competent kinky-toy manufacturer on Etsy could make one for you. In concept, it's a furry Dragon's Tongue.

Florentine Flogging, Part Two: Practical Application

nachtsoul: So for Florentine, there’s “getting the moves down”, and then there’s “accurate targeting and control” while you’re doing it. Still working on the first part. :-). I’d be intensely curious to see some discussion about the second part… actually putting it to effective, appropriate use in a scene.

The “strike” zone never changes, no matter how advanced the play-style. We aim for the upper and middle back (where the muscles and ribs protect the internal organs). I tend not to use Florentine anywhere else on the sub’s body.

I use Florentine flogging as “spice” during a play-session. It is powerful, it is special - Most folks never get to be on the other end of two floggers, and it can be quite memorable.

In my own case, I switch from style to style of erotic touch, caressing, gentle warm-up, varying intensity, and constant variety of stimulation. I can arouse and excite using sharp, deep, cold, gentle, forcible, sadistic and hilarious styles, all in one session, switching between them from moment to moment.

Florentine flogging is just one more superb tool in my arsenal.
The Current State of Flogging In The World

If I show up at most worldwide play parties, the Flogging Tops generally use only one style of flogging: Grip the handle, throw the flogger over the shoulder, and “THWOP!” Repeat.

This Top is using the “Baseball Bat Two-Handed Throw.” His arms are probably very tired after demoing at the street fair all afternoon, so that is why his other hand is helping.

The video demonstrates the overhead Power Throw. This one lacks subtlety, but it gets the job done fast. Personally, I tend to use a lot more warmup before going for the gusto. Everybody has their unique, personal style.

I see this style in porn videos, too. Hot fuckin’ TOPMAN looks great, and yet has no idea what he is doing in this BoundGods video. He’s beating the kidneys, he’s striking the lower back HARD, he never checks in with the sub, and nobody has ever loved him enough to warn him against those things. And the pounding goes on and on.

It’s like he is auditioning for the movie role of a Roman Centurion. He is not being bad or wrong, He just never got the benefit of high-quality mentoring, to help him get to his next level. That’s why I post these articles.
Florentine Flogging Gets You Noticed For All of the Right Reasons

When I step up at a play-party, I show off my flexibility, sensitivity, attentiveness and expertise. The line of eager bottoms gets longer and longer, and my dance-card fills up FAST.

The primary reason why I teach my personal style is that I want folks to know that magnificent and impressive play is possible. All that it takes is practice and self-motivation. Mastering something like this guarantees instant status and respect, wherever you go. I want that for everybody.

It does help. Understood about the strike zone never changing… just trying to connect the dots between doing Florentine and actually hitting the strike zone. :-). So far, so focused on getting the moves right, that targeting is poor. Practice, practice, practice I guess. Fortunately, practice is fun.

Acknowledged on variety in style, too, I definitely mix things up as I go: changing intensity and technique through the session, usually - but not always - saving hard, brute force thud for the finish (when flogging), and a larger proportion of intense strikes when singletailing. I vary a lot with that to play with my sub’s refractory response :-)

It sounds like you are on an excellent path, brother. THE ONLY WAY TO ATTAIN PERFECT AIM IS THROUGH PRACTICE. So, like I always recommend, set up the pillow hooked into the top drawer on the dresser as I mention in my videos, put on a podcast over headphones (or anything that takes your logical mind out of the process), and work on your muscle memory.

By practicing. Just a few hours of focused, intentional practice can make all of the difference.
The Desired Strike Zone

When I am teaching singletail whipping, I insist upon flawless aim by having the protégé Sir set the goal of “spreading” and “fanning” the strikes. The following area is what is struck by Florentine flogging:

The goal is to create a perfect pattern such as this one, for a sub who is standing. Obviously, this shows the result from singletail work. Flogging doesn’t make these kinds of marks. I only include it for the sake of clarity on the desired strike-zone.

The bottom MUST have an upper-body angle of at least 45 degrees for Florentine work, when standing. Otherwise, you are hitting the shoulders and neck. This is never good.

What helps with learning Florentine at the stage where you are, is to listen for the RHYTHM. If every strike makes noise, and the pattern is even, you’ve learned it.

Papa Tony: I was invited to do a flogging performance at the Faultline Bar in Los Angeles. I asked a buddy to video-capture some of the goings-on. The occasion was the monthly fund-raiser for the Tom of Finland Foundation, hosted by, among others, Marc Randell Bellenger.

Plain, Simple Flogging

The flogger that I am using is the Original Mister Thuddy from FlogMeBaby.com, and it’s currently selling for 45 bucks. I have owned dozens. Why so many? Because I teach Tops. I will loan a flogger to a new Dom, and teach them to use it, and then I watch to see what happens.

If they go forth and start thrilling the public with their practiced skills, I will create an impromptu ceremony, praising them publicly, and presenting them with the flogger. As a Tribal Elder, I see it as a crucial part of supporting a healthy Tribe. Generations of happy bottoms will thank me, long after I’m dead!

If I had to give away all but one toy, this is the one that I would keep.

I include this video to show my playing style when in public, and for teaching purposes. On this occasion every Daddy in the bar brought his boy over to me for flogging. I ALWAYS include the Daddy/Master/Sir in the scene, as shown here. This makes the scene more personal, Tribal, and less territorial.

I ALWAYS have the boy un-do his pants in a bar-play situation, so that I can expose his ass. It’s exciting and vulnerable for him, sensual for me, and causes every other Top in the bar to become envious of my good luck. I’m being a role-model for what happens when a man steps into his power.

I am using the Purple Horror flogger from FlogMeBaby.com - I use two of them at once (”Florentine Flogging”) toward the end of the video. It’s my current favorite flogger, out of hundreds that have been in my collection in the last forty years. It’s inexpensive, it has the perfect balance and weight for 95% of what I do, and it’s solidly-built. I have bestowed many of FlogMeBaby’s floggers upon superstar proteges over the years.

A few notes:

I have never played with this young man before. Each time that I approach him closely in the video, I am checking-in on how he is doing, as explained in the instructional video. That is the ONLY reason why I take the play as far as I do. Every bottom has different thresholds, and I was tailoring the play to HIS specific abilities and limits.

Play-by-play:

00:00 - Using my beard and mustache to get him relaxed.
00:20 - Gentle warm-up. I am constantly switching between loose and firm grip.
00:25 - “Had ENOUGH?!?!”
00:40 - Spanking with a flogger. This style keeps the tails from tangling.
01:00 - Changing the stimulation.
01:20 - Flogging while caressing… Not hitting my hand, either.
02:30 - Making him smell the leather. NOT blocking the airflow.
03:40 - Spanking. The goal is to build up to firm slaps, near the bottom of the ass-crack.
06:00 - GENTLE stimulation. Exquisite on reddened flesh.
06:50 - “He loves, me, he loves me not…”
07:00 - Licking and nibbling, while using upper-body strength to grasp firmly.
07:30 - Back-slapping in a safe area of the body.
07:45 - “Drawing”on the reddened area.
09:00 - Florentine flogging. Two-Beat Weave interspersed with Three-Beat Weave.
09:25 - Aftercare, and praise. These are essential to EVERY SCENE.

I review kinky toys periodically. Mostly, those that pertain to Impact Play, because that is my specialty. I have recently gotten my hands on a new one, and it excites and pleases me greatly.

The Thumper II flogger, for thirty bucks from FlogMeBaby.com

It's a classic "mop" flogger, meaning that there are twice the number of tails as usual, but each one is half as wide. This makes for an excellent, all-around "thuddy" flogger. As I declare in the video, If I were to head off to a sophisticated, advanced-level play-party, and only bring ONE toy, then this is what I would bring.

After over forty years of ever-increasing experience, my heart still belongs to good, high-quality BEGINNER toys, with a maximum of all-around use, which I demonstrate in the video.

This is because I am a mentor for Doms, every day. Younger folks tend to be underemployed in the current economy, and they shouldn't have to choose between a month of groceries, and a toy. So, I'm always on the lookout for the best bang for the buck.

Instructional Video: Kinky Playing Without Toys

Years ago, I started posting reviews and demos of kinky toys. There are many, all over the Internet.

I recently realized that I had never done an instructional video where I specifically avoid using any form of toys or props during kinky, erotic play (with one glorious exception, in today's video).

This is a small part of an actual scene, captured at a local leather bar. The style of play is subtle to watch on video, but INTENSE to experience, up close. I am using pressure-points (a lot), tickling, licking, breathing upon wet flesh, spanking, nibbling, gentle touch, FIRM touch, upper-body strength, safe body-punching, ice-water (can never get enough of that) and scratching.

Play By Play Explanation

00:00 - Foreplay, using fingertips. Notice that I am NOT being sexually aggressive. Going at the butthole and the genitals right away, is what beginners do. This is not a porn film. Masterful players are subtle and seductive, working their way up to supreme pleasure.

00:30 - Applying upper-body strength to restrain, while warming up the ass and thighs. This conveys a sense of being "taken over" by a Dominant.

00:40 - Changing the tempo, and varying the stimulation, however briefly. NEVER just go bang-bang-bang continuously, as if beating a drum. The goal is to cause arcing and sparking in the sub's brain circuitry.

01:35 - Using my beard and stubble to vary the stimulation, and then BITING. Most of this action involves nearly biting (scraping the teeth along the skin), rather than actually chomping down. When any biting occurs, it is in the form of a nip, using the just the edges of two teeth, one on the upper jaw, and one on the lower. When you nip, do it hard enough to evoke a noticeable response, and then back off. Doing this rarely, and then nearly biting some more, creates a natural, anticipatory tension in the sub's mind: "Oh lordy - is it going to happen again?" When nipping, move around. Don't just concentrate upon one spot.

02:00 - After licking and biting, blowing upon the wet area, to rapidly cause a cooling sensation.

02:10 - Starting again with the biting, but adding more forceful gripping, and growling, in as authentically lustful of a way as possible. This causes the sub's subconscious brain to panic a bit. This causes the Fight or Flight Response to kick in, and the endorphins will start pumping like water from a faucet.

There are MANY others, but not as useful for play.

02:20 - Pressure points. The obvious ones to start with are the sides of the torso. Many folks are ticklish. Many folks also can stifle the ticklish response, which can fool many Sirs. Don't assume that they aren't ticklish, when they are being stoic. You just haven't broken down their barriers yet. Trust will cause that to happen.

02:30 - Pressure points, again. Armpit, followed by...

02:40 - Inner thigh. This is truly worth finding. Center of the inner thigh, just under the genitals. There are tendons that join up there, and when your firm fingers dig in between them, it causes a wonderful response.

03:00 - Warning the sub that things are about to go up a notch, and obtaining verbal assent. Then, following through. Intent, followed by action. This establishes credibility.

03:20 - This is not a hairy sub. However, tugging (and maybe even yanking) a few hairs where you can find them, is highly stimulating.

03:45 - Dousing with ice water. I find it hard to resist doing this in bar demos. Total shock to the system, particularly if there is no warning. That is why I was gesticulating, rather than using words that would warn the sub what was coming up. That is a large container of bubbly water with lime juice. I NEVER do kinky play when using alcohol, or any other substance that could impair my judgment. This would be unethical. In the last forty years, I have seen too many scenes that have gone wrong (sometimes horribly wrong), when either or both players are not fully present.

03:55 - Spreading the wetness around. Later, I like to fan the wet area with a flogger, but that is outside the topic of Playing Without Toys.

04:25 - Again, firm grasp, with biting.

05:10 - Slapping, then punching. You will notice that I am ONLY doing this to the larger muscles which can handle it, not to areas where the bones are close to the surface.

05:45 - My personal goal for ass-spanking is to strike at the area of the ass above the butthole. Everything else is just warmup. This area can be spanked very hard, AFTER a nice, long amount of warmup. This reminds the sub of what happened, as they drive home. Normally, I work both sides of the ass equally. In this case, since I am performing for the camera, I can't do as even of a job, without blocking the camera view.

After the Video Ends

There was much more to the scene, involving Florentine and regular-style flogging, and MUCH aftercare, cuddling and talking. I omitted this because my play-partner was wary of having his face on video, and I respect that.

My Playmate's Reaction

Activity such as this is extremely emotive. I tend to immerse myself in the moment. Thoughts of past or future only interfere with my understanding of the now. Afterward, the experience in its specifics fade but I retain the overall emotion. When I speak in generalities it's often because the correct words cannot precisely express my intent.

Often, moments after an encounter, the lingering sensations and accompanying emotion will obliterate any distinguishable vocabulary leaving me with 'that was fun'. In this case I was alight and reeling from sensations. Sensations pleasurable, painful, and others that fall somewhere in between.

Papa Tony brought me through moments of endurance and through some sensory loudness. The ice water, a pleasurable surprise. The tickles that create an interior tempest rather than an external impact. The fur tugging, a welcomed spirit of humor. The bites that are high, bright, loud punctuation. That night Papa Tony had exposed, controlled, and brought to the surface my innate nature.

Watching the video is interesting. I can now visually equate actions with what, before viewing the video, I only had sensory memories. Memories from my skin, muscle and bone. The visual overview, in my opinion, does not compare to the physical stimulation I was feeling in that moment. At times the video shows activity that seems so small, so slight that one can almost overlook it but from the sensation point of view, it was a huge moment. I'm a very visual person, but often times a touch is worth a thousand pictures.

I also (briefly) used a single-tail whip, but it was hell to aim properly in that dark bar.

So, we gave up fast, for safety's sake..

Flame Whip

Fiber-optic, digital "Flame Whip" (that's just my nickname - they are actually called "Space Whips"). I only used one, because the other one is in repair - the digital circuit-board malfunctioned, and it is being replaced for free.
