CONTEMPORARY TRENDS IN LEATHER

Race Bannon will talk about significant trends taking place in the leather/SM/fetish scene and the ramifications of these trends. Race will focus on certain trends such as the increasing fluidity of roles and the impact of the internet on the scene. After speaking for approximately 30 minutes, Race will answer questions and facilitate discussion.

12:30PM  Guy Baldwin

RADSEX RISING TIDE TURBO PERVO TONIC
Twilight ----Nightfall -----New Dawn

Baldwin briefly comments on the twilight of Classical Leather Culture--The Old Guard, and then moves on to some exciting new elements emerging in the men's radical sex world: The development and rise of the new erotic elite; quicksand politics; Glam-poz; and more. He'll speak for about 20 minutes or so, and then follow with questions and a facilitated discussion with the audience.

2:00PM  Justin Tanis

HOLY SEX,  SACRED POWER:  SPIRITUALITY AND LEATHER

"This work is nothing less than spiritual yearnings translated into exquisite violence," William Carney wrote in The Real Thing in 1968; this is certainly true for some of us.  This workshop will explore the spiritual yearnings that we express and experience through SM and in relationships of dominance and submission.   Pain, surrender, responsibility, ecstasy--all of these have religious meanings as well as meanings within the leather community and the two sets of understandings can inform and expand one another.  We'll describe together the mystical experiences that people have and discuss the common threads and conditions of these.  We'll look, too, at how practice, language and models of spirituality and meaning can enhance our scenes and our relationships.  People of all faiths and spiritual paths (or none) will be welcomed and affirmed.

3:30PM  Annie Romano-Blas

SWITCHING - MOVING FLUIDLY IN TWO REALMS

Explore what switching is, both in play and in lifestyle.  Why do people identify as switches?  How are they perceived in the community, by their peers?  What are the advantages and disadvantages of identifying as a switch?  Do YOU identify as a switch?  These questions, issues and more will be discussed.  Bring your ideas, questions and even your assumptions about what being a switch in a heavily Top/bottom community means.  This should be a wonderfully eye-opening experience for everyone involved!
