Papa Tony |
I've been part of the San Diego Leather community (in varying degrees) since 1977, and I don't consider myself "Old Guard" in the traditional sense - I was given great counseling, mentoring and support by men who I saw as my Daddies, and now that I'm in my mid-forties, I'm returning the favor by sharing whatever I can.
My Daddies are dead now, and I have chosen the nickname of Papa Tony as a way of clearly identifying myself as a nurturing leatherman.
I created the Rampart Leather Tribe Dance Party in October of 1998, and it began running every Friday night, starting in February 1999. I host it most weeks, welcoming people who are new, and encouraging folks to relax and enjoy themselves. It's a huge success for everybody who participates and brings their joyful energy. It's not about me, because I just provide the theme - It's about the hundreds of men who are kind, playful and joyous, and who share that spirit willingly.
I have been sending out the PT-List electronic mailing-list since November of 1998, and it goes out each week to hundreds of gay leathermen all over Southern California. I also travel to other cities and give motivational talks, based on my Gathering the Tribe series of articles.
I do my best to help as many people with their projects as I can spare time for, because it's important to lend strength to folks who are doing their best to make a difference in the community. You'll see me at most public functions, helping out in small ways.
If you see me around, step right in front of me and get a sweet hug!
I like leather and uniforms, and wear them often...
