From the desk of Sir Magnum...

It's finally here and time to celebrate San Diego 40 Year Anniversary of LGBT Pride!

It's estimated that over 300,000 residents and visitors will attend this weekend's festivities. Now is the time to come out in full force to acknowledge, honor and celebrate our community's Leather Pride.

I'll be out flagging my colors and hankies as they raise the LGBT Flag at the "Spirit of Stonewall Rally" this Friday from 6-7pm.

You can show your Pride, unity and solidarity by walking with FMSD in the Parade with the Leather Contingenct on Saturday at 11am (see note below).  After the parade, come support all the BDSM & kink activities, exhibits, workshops and demos at the Leather Realm at the SD Pride Festival this Saturday and Sunday.

While I'm out celebrating, cruising and having fun, I'm going to make a point and be aware to meet and greet my brothers and sisters in our leather/kink tribe and possibly make some new connections. Come out and join me.

Happy Pride!

From Mr. San Diego Leather 2013 Eli Correa:
Congratulations to the new SoCal LeatherSir 2014 Joe Micci, and SoCal Leatherboy 2014 Matthew Mullins!

From JP:

Now that I have your attention, here's an update for everyone regarding the table we will have inside the Leather Realm at the Pride Festival.

WHAT WE HAVE:
Table with 2 chairs
Really great flyers to give those that want them.
An amazing slide show that will run constantly, showing most of the FMSD events and activities of the last couple years.

WHAT WE NEED:
Men to man the table - First shift both Sat. and Sun. and last shift on Sunday. (most shifts now covered - Thank You!)
Fabric to cover table. Large canvas or black fabric. Maybe camouflage?
Something to hang behind us like a big Leather Flag or ?
Other items to make members and guests comfortable? I'm planning to bring a cooler with water...but if anyone wishes to add to this, all is welcome.

The new shirts will look like this, but BLACK.

From Leatherboy jon:

All you need to do is chat with people as they come by and talk about your experience. We will have a slide show running of images from past events that should stimulate interest. From Wish Linda: To All in our Leather Tribe and affiliated communities:

San Diego has a very special community who welcome you with open arms to join us for San Diego Pride and the San Diego Pride Parade!

Please join with Mr. and Ms. San Diego Leather 2013, Eli and Colt, and the San Diego leather, kink, fetish and affiliated communities on Saturday, July 19, 2013, and show your PRIDE by walking with the Leather Contingent in the San Diego Pride Parade.

The parade kicks off on Saturday, 11:00 a.m. and ends just in time to visit the Pride Festival grounds and the Alt-Pride area in beautiful Balboa Park in San Diego.

UPDATE: The Leather walking contingent is #79 in the parade. We are staging in contingent zone F which is on Harvey Milk Street and wraps around on the east side of Normal toward University.

The Leather walking contingent, The San Diego Eagle float, Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and the Bears are all next to each other in the parade BUT NOT NEXT TO EACH OTHER IN THE STAGING AREA( (because vehicle/float and walking contingents are staged in different areas). Transgress Press and Visible Bodies invite you to attend the "Manning Up" Launch Party!

Manning Up: Transsexual Men on Finding Brotherhood, Family & Themselves is a groundbreaking collection of 27 personal narratives by a diverse group of North American transsexual men who span class, ethnicity, ability, and age locations. Award-winning writers and new voices come together to tell their stories of doubt and discovery, invisibility and belonging, isolation and paying wisdom forward.

Manning Up offers readers a fuller image of transition’s place within men’s larger life pictures, ultimately challenging academic, medical, and bureaucratic narratives of transsexual people and expanding on cultural understandings of masculinity.

What to expect...

- Snacks & beverages begin at 7pm

- Readings by local contributing authors
- Prints of the cover art available for purchase, courtesy of Visible Bodies: Transgender Narratives Retold

Tips for Folsom Newbies

MINOR SHIFT IN FOLSOM STREET FAIR LOCATION

Annual fetish fair will take place on Folsom Street between 8TH and 13TH Streets

((San Francisco, CA - Wednesday, June 4, 2014) While the South of Market streets have changed fairly drastically over the last 20 years, the location of Folsom Street Fair hasn't changed at all. In 1995, the fair expanded its footprint to include the block of Folsom between 11TH and 12TH Streets; however, in all of the years since then, the fair's footprint has remained constant and unwavering. Until this year, that is. For the first time since 1995, Folsom Street Fair will be updating its layout to accommodate the needs of a changing city.

According to Demetri Moshoyannis, Executive Director, "The Board of Directors agreed to move the fair slightly in order to achieve three major objectives: 1. Improving street traffic around the fair; 2. Minimizing impact on residential side streets; and, 3. Engaging new community businesses. The shift of just one block in our fair footprint means that we can improve traffic flow by opening up 8TH Street to live traffic; we can engage fewer residential side streets; and, we can create new or improved relationships with community businesses like The SF Eagle, Sports Authority, and Cat Head's BBQ - all of whom will be able to participate more actively now. Getting the Eagle onto the fairgrounds feels especially relevant for many of us in the leather community!"

According to Phillip Babcock, Board President, "Folsom Street Events hopes that this shift is an improvement for the event, the community, the businesses and our fairgoers. We don't want to keep producing the same fair year after year. In fact, we meet and plan frequently in order to work towards a more improved experience for everyone. We hope that the community likes the change; we're excited to try something a little different."

Sponsorships for 2014 include: PRESENTING RECON, Steamworks, Mr. S Leather, Kink.com, and GLOSS; PRESENTING LIQUOR Distillery 209, Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey, and Southern Comfort; PREMIER 9x6 Lubes, Blow Buddies; CHARTER eXtremeRestraints.com andBoyzShop.com, Factory Video and CumUnion; SUPPORTING Powerhouse, Orchid & Serpent, 440 Castro, Falcon Studios/Raging Stallion Studios, and Adult FriendFinder; MEDIA Bay Area Reporter, SF Bay Guardian, SF Weekly, Frontiers, and GayCities; OFFICIAL PARTIES PLAY T-Dance, Full Fetish, and Aftershock; and, HOST HOTELS Kimpton Hotels, MisterBNB.com.

October 18-19: Bearquake in San Diego. BearQuake grew out of an idea of forming an alliance between the various clubs in Southern California and elsewhere. A "Bear Weekend" was planned where we could all get together and get to know each other. A contest was also held for Mr. So Cal Bear and Cub. The success of that first event opened the door to future gatherings which has become "BearQuake".

October 30 - November 2: Desert Leather Pride in Palm Springs

Note: This is a BIG CHANGE in the scheduling, since this usually happens on the SECOND weekend of the month  - Make a note of it!

Here are pics from last year:

Nov. 7-9: Palm Springs Gay Pride, with the parade on SUNDAY, Nov. 9

In addition, Weekend hosts provide hotel space for what has evolved into a huge leather-loving community and affinity annual reunion.
