2012-10-16 Review of the Formal Dinner Benefit
I wish that I had brought my big camera to get some decent night pictures, because I would have loved to show you some excellent-quality pictures that could convey how the evening FELT.
A few of the "Bamboo Loungers" who showed up.
Our host Ron (center top in the photo) had coordinated with the staff at Bamboo Lounge to set us up on the back patio, and to keep the sushi platters coming. Few of us were prepared for the chilly night air (after months of horrid heat), except for David (second from left in the photo), whose new head-to-toe Langlitz gear kept him toasty-warm. Next month, I'm going for a similar look. That damned kilt was great for dancing later on, but it was DRAFTY out in the cold night air!
As you can see from the photo, it wasn't a particularly rigorous dress-code, given that it was supposed to be a "Formal" event, and that was fine with everybody there. Our shared intention was to socialize, kick off the evening, and show some financial support for our current Mr. San Diego Leather for 2012, Aaron. All of those goals were accomplished.
The socializing was the best part. Our newest member Chris (lower right in the picture) was a bit shy about fitting in when he first arrived, but he was lively, bold and full of spirit by the end of the evening. How could he help it? He was the right man, in the right place, at the right time. We all made it easy for him to fit in.
A casual observer would have had no difficulty believing that the men gathered for dinner had known each other for decades. We have a deep level of mutual trust, which takes so much stress out of being together. We were draped over each other, whispering, giggling, sharing and getting revved-up to get all Tribal together as a team at the HARNESS Party later on, while enjoying the excellent food.
Ron gathered together some donations to benefit Aaron's Travel Fund. Aaron clearly needs the help, given his travel schedule. He is being our champion, representing San Diego's Tribe in the best possible way.
No matter what, this event is a keeper, and will continue every month.
