This is from me, Kim, the Producer of the Ms. San Diego Leather contest that is being held in November 5-6.
I've been asked by many in the community to set up a coffee with myself and some of our local titleholders to answer some questions about what it means to be a titleholder, what comes with the responsibility and why one should run.
If your interested, please email me back. I need to get a number so I can book a space. Most likely we will meet on the back patio of David's. So...just let me know.

Subject: Attention Titleholders!
From: Papa Tony <xxltony@crash.cts.com>
The producers of the upcoming Ms. San Diego Leather contest have informed me that there will be a VIP list at the entrance for folks who would like to have their titles (past and present) announced on-stage at one point during the contest.
I have also been informed that anyone who wears their title vest or sash gets into the event for free!
Personally, I think that this is an absolutely wonderful and generous acknowledgement of our community's history and traditions. So many people have worked so very hard to help the community, and they should always be warmly welcomed among us in just this way.
I'm sending a copy of this message to 22 local titleholders as well!

Ms. San Diego Leather Contest
I'm planning to attend this weekend's leather-oriented events and so should you. I'm proud to be a gay leatherman, with a long, proud history of mentoring and traditions. One of the traditions that died out for a while was the gentlemanly custom of supporting ALL parts of the community, particularly women. Thanks to Annie Romano, Mark O'Keefe, Tom Chavez, Mike Hargiss and many others, the rest of San Diego's leather community has drawn together in friendship and camaraderie.
In the last year, the process has accelerated, with hundreds of folks who have come on board the SDLLC train. San Diego's leather community is currently the envy of many other cities, with our ability to bring all factions together - Our events are super-successful and well-attended, and if you have been cynical about the community in the past, be aware that everything has changed for the better.
If you go to any of the following events, take the time to notice how happy, peaceful, diverse and well-run they are - There is a well-oiled machine of hard-working volunteers from all parts of the community who all do their jobs with integrity and cooperation. If there are any personal difficulties, they are handled quickly and everybody moves on. This is NOT how things used to be, it's cause for great celebration.
Join us at the Meet & Greet at 8PM on Friday, November 5th at Diedrich Coffee House at 1080 University, (right across from the entrance to Ralph's in the Uptown District shopping Center in Hillcrest). Meet the contestants, the judges (including Pam Meyer, IMsL '99) and a surprise guest or two.
The Contest will be on November 6th at the Hole. The stairwell opens at 7PM, and the contest starts at 8PM sharp. Tickets are $10 at the door. Come down and mix with the current, past and some major out of town titleholders. Come down and mix with friends! Fun is ready to be had! Hang out after the contest for the festivities with the new Ms. San Diego Leather!

Please join me at the Ms. San Diego Leather Contest for 1999 tonight - I'd particularly enjoy seeing a lot of my gay brothers there. I promise that it won't be an uncomfortable place for you, and that it's a worthy, valuable experience. The people there won't be giving you any attitude - In fact, you'll be quite welcome. This is a rare opportunity to mix and mingle with high-quality folks from all parts of the leather community - The Daddies and Mommies (and girls and boys) that are making a difference here in San Diego.

Subject: Ms. San Diego Leather Gears up and explodes!!!!!
From: "Kim S." <femstrenth@yahoo.com>
Greetings all...Please pass this on and it may be reproduced.
What a weekend! Well, you'd be able to say yes to that question if you were in attendance at the 6th Annual Ms. San Diego Leather weekend! Sorry for the length, but a lot happened!!!
Our weekend began at Diedrich Coffee House in Hillcrest/Uptown! A wonderful gathering of people from Club X and others were there to socialize with all the potential contestants and the judges. We had visitors from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orange County and even one from out of the state! Many were also there to share their support with those who are involved with the Club X issues. Our hearts are still pouring out to them! And I made sure I spoke with each of them in attendance, just as you should when you see them...(a kind thought from my heart)
The contestants spent the evening mixing and mingling to make their presence known to the judges who were there. Pam Meyer (IMsL 1999) was there just in from Europe and was a true delight! Bill Freyer, David Janisch, Suzy (Ms. SDL 98/99), Julie Cox (aka Master Paine), and Dean Martin. All of the judges had a great time, at least that is what they told me ;) Lee Lambert was back from Las Vegas, but not able to be there.
The contestants chose their order at about 9:30PM and were really naughty not to tell, but eventually told Wendy Sue, Annie and myself what order they would show up in! Each contestant was sent home by 10:00AM because they had a very busy day the next day...and the rest of us stayed out and enjoyed the great company that was abundant.
On Saturday, interviews began at 10:00AM. Yes it is true that I had the judges be there at 9:30AM ;) All judges arrived and were busy in the back patio pounding coffee and donuts at David's Coffee House, reading applications and discussing the process. The interview is the most grueling of the whole contest and from the sheets that I read, I'm glad I wasn't a judge!!! The point spread was a mere 11 between each contestant! That is phenomenal!
Later in the day after interviews, each contestant went to the HOLE to work out their tech stuff for their fantasy...busy, busy, busy. Here is where the meat of the event was constructed. Wolf's and my boy jules, Wendy Sue, Byrd, PuP, Cuff, Carla, Den Mommies Patty and Michelle and others ran around all day to make this happen. With out each of you, well, there just would be no event. Special thanks to each of you.
That evening was a full, fun packed night! Energy was buzzing in the air of excitement. I saw some people that I only see at "major" events in attendance, so San Diego must be doing something right! Crickett Watkins was our Mistress of Ceremony and did a great job MCing and auctioning off some wonderful donations from The Merchant Man (oh that knife and chainmail whip), Lee Lambert (nice belt) and our very own Richard (the stain glass was beautiful)! We also had men auction their "shorts", Pam Meyer auctioned off her Harley shirt and Bill Freyer auctioned off a privte fisting lesson! I could not believe how shy you all became! What a deal!
Speeches of empowerment, spirituality and AIDS activism were spoken with heart and soul. Fantasies ranged from the Village People to a wild doctor and her totally hot "toy", who ended up admiring itself more than the doctor, to a sales associate who dressed their human manikin in the best dom outfit I've seen in recent months, to finally Papa School Master and his class of naughty plaid skirted grrls, blue shorted boys misbehaving in school! They were all extremely funny, full of creativity and laughter. That always cleanses the soul.
Dean Martin along with Mike Hargiss (in spirit) and Tom Chavez came to the stage to present the Ms. San Diego Leather travel fund a check from their efforts at Leather Jam '99 in the amount of $1027...a huge thank you goes out to them individually and the community for supporting Leather Jam. If you missed that...shame on you!!!
As the evening drew to a close, all of our extremely worthy women were brought to the stage, and my heart began to swell with the excitement of my new ownership of yet another grrl....Oops! I didn't mean to say that!!! (heee) But truly, my heart did swell, as I was handed the paper with the much anticipated names. All the past Ms. San Diego Leathers were on stage to assist in presenting the medals, flowers and for support. We had a special request from one of the contestants to include all four in winning and I was happy to accommodate that request!
Third runner-up was Lappie! She did an absolutly fantastic job. Second runner-up was Dawn Levy, who impressed not only myself, but a slew of others that have a whole new insight about her! First runner-up was Jo Blas (aka Papa Jo)...where she came in with her speech and fantasy no one can say, but it was wonderful...and now, for what you all have been waiting and reading through this for...
Please congratulate with me...Doe Blake, Ms. San Diego Leather 1999/2000! Whooooooo-hooooo!!!!!! Doe did a phenomenal job, as did the others, and to boot she impressed the you know what out of Pam Meyer! That can't hurt!!! Youre going to be seeing a lot of this woman! You go grrl, and from the bottom of my heart...congratulations and welcome to "My" leather family!
Sincerely,
Kim Sontag
